The culture surrounding celebrities in our society borders on ridiculous. We watch their moves as if their every decision affects us personally. We identify with celebrities so much through whatever their expertise is (music, film, etc.) that we begin to feel like we know them on a personal level. We buy things because they endorse them and some of us even live our lives based on their quotes. What we lose sight of in all this is that celebrities, just like us, are humans, but we deify them and their riches.
Their riches alone make their lives something most of us can only dream of, but we overlook that. These celebrities use their influence to tell us to vote all the while overlooking the role money plays in AmeriKKKan Politricks. They get on air and say things that they are ALLOWED to say. They endorse products not necessarily because they are effective or helpful, but because the money they got paid looks right. OUR CELEBRITIES LACK INTEGRITY.
So why do we follow them? Maybe because deep down we want to be like them, lack of integrity and all. Or maybe because we believe that they are being genuine in all of their manicured appearances. But celebrities are no more than high paid employees who do the bidding of their employers. They don’t stand up and speak truth when it’s unpopular, they care too much about they’re image. Image before integrity should be the motto of today’s celebrities.
An underlying problem here is that what believe too easily what we see. The TV presents an image to us and we accept it at face value. We don’t put to the test what is presented to us, we just believe in the facade. One who has an idea of how the world works will not allow this to happen. When you have an idea of what people will do for money, the gate keepers of Hollywierd, and the role that POWER plays in the world in general, it becomes difficult to believe in the facade of celebrities.
Maybe the celebrities of yesteryear were worth idolizing, back when integrity was easier to come by, but these new celebrities in this new world ARE NOT WORTH THAT ENERGY. For this, I have one major remedy: Instead of idolizing celebrities, use that energy on yourself. Realize that what you admire in celebrities (and in others in general) remains dormant within in you. Realize the power within you and you won’t feel compelled to idolize TV characters.
